A Vietnam Update - July 2020

Hi Everyone!

In 1998, a friend from New Zealand introduced our ministry to Christians in Vietnam – that was 22 years ago.  He worked with children’s leaders and workers, training them about the importance of ministering to children. We began to teach and encourage pastors and children’s leaders there.  A few years later Karl Steinbrinck of Powerlink Ministries traveled with us to work with those interested in children.  Vietnam is an interesting and challenging country for Christians.  Chad Chism, the Regional Director for Southeast Asia, brings good news from Vietnam this month

Pastor Ca with a widow

Vietnam is a communist country in Southeast Asia that has had a tumultuous existence, but its people always strive to overcome. Vietnam is no longer split, north and south, but one nation since 1975. They are currently the number 4 exporter of rice and coffee in the world! Though its economic model is capitalism, the communist mentality and control has a deep stronghold, which perpetuates poverty, inequality, and repressed religious freedom. Many people in Vietnam who know the Lord have met Him through dire situations. One such person is Ca. Pastor Ca is a pastor in the northern region of Vietnam and here is her story:

Ca used to dabble in witchcraft and sell supplies related to that.  She got to be pretty popular in her area and came to believe strongly in witchcraft, until her husband got sick.  Pastor Ca had several health problems of her own.  Her husband itched all over with no relief.  They went to witches, witch doctors, medical doctors, holistic doctors, and hospitals with no remedy.

During this time, her sister (a pastor in the southern region of Vietnam whomGoingGlobalworks closely with) continued to pray for her and the family intensely and share the Gospel with them.  They were never receptive to the Gospel until they were at their wits end with their health.  Pastor Nga travelled to the countryside of northern Vietnam where Ca’s family lived.  It was there that Pastor Nga shared the Gospel with them again and prayed for them, laying hands on them and declaring God’s healing over them.

The family chose to renounce witchcraft, to believe God, and accept His free gift of salvation!  Their diseases vanished! Everybody in the village saw the change and the healing that had happened in their health.  Pastor Nga diligently taught Ca and her family the Word of God over several years to help them in their journey with Jesus.  Later, Pastor Nga along with her sister Ca planted a church in this northern village, which is now thriving.  People in her church have testimonies of being healed from cancer, deliverance from witchcraft, restored families, and many others too numerous to mention here. Perhaps we will share in another newsletter!

During the COVID outbreak when Vietnam shut down, normal cooking supplies became very difficult to obtain. Some farming regions had rice supplies, but still lacked other essentials for making meals for the family. Pastor Ca sought to minister to the community by visiting the sick and supplying them with essentials that were hard to obtain during the virus outbreak.  She supplied them with rice, cooking oil, and other food essentials you can see in these photos. These gifts made it possible to share the Gospel and minister to people in practical ways. Several accepted Jesus as their Savior and were touched by the Gospel for the first time in their lives.

Please continue to pray for Vietnam, Pastor Nga, and Pastor Ca and their ministries to the poor, the unbelievers, and the families and children in remote areas. Their ministries are thriving due to God’s grace being poured out and your support!

Forever grateful for you and the marvelous grace of God!

Food For Thought

“Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.”  Luke 5:8

Have you ever had the same thoughts as Peter? Get rid of them!  Jesus came for sinners. He suffered and died as the payment for our sins so our relationship with the Father can be restored!
