Decades of Ministry in Myanmar

Close to 30 years ago a young Burmese couple returned from Bible school in India to their village in Myanmar. They had witnessed many sick and dying children on the streets while in India. They believed they heard from Holy Spirit not to allow that to happen in their village.

Their names are Peter and Rebecca, and they started an orphanage while in their early twenties with a handful of children. Peter taught at Gospel For Asia Bible College part-time while Rebecca scavenged for food and cared for the orphans. At one point they sold their wedding rings to buy urgently needed rice. But they continued to hear the Holy Spirit direct their path as He gave them great vision for what they could accomplish.

Peter and Rebecca

We met them in 1996 and immediately connected with their vision for a larger orphanage, Bible school, and church. They trusted that the Lord wanted them to raise up Christian children filled with Holy Spirit in a mostly Buddhist nation. They had a heart for their people, not only in their village, but in their nation. It was a perfect partnership for our ministry. Our vision for orphans, widows, and helping pastors in remote areas was the same. This is how our relationship began.

Today Love Children’s Home includes over 500 orphans in 13 orphanages. Disciple Bible College continues to train young adults in the ways of the Lord and church planting. The new Peter Thang School will provide excellent Christian-based education for over 500 students beginning this June. A vibrant church serves not only the children but local villagers. Widows are cared for, and pastors are trained, encouraged, and sent out.

Peter Thang joined the saints in heaven during Covid and is celebrating with Jesus Christ today. His wife Rebecca, children Elizabeth, Rosemary, and Joseph are carrying on the ministry with fresh eyes, hearts, and enthusiasm. Like Peter, they hear from the Holy Spirit and are led accordingly. We thank God for our partnership today and look forward to a long relationship.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support for the work in Myanmar.

Grateful,

Dennis and Robin

Myanmar Ministry Continues to Reach New Orphans

Meet two of our newest members to our LCH family, Bone A Lin Kar Zaw (4 year old), and Aung Kyaw Min (9 year old), from Mon State. Due to the country’s situation, their parents had to separate and live in different parts of the country and decided to get divorced after a year of living in different places, realizing that the father might not be able to come home again. After their divorce, their mother came to Yangon all the way from Mon state to start a new life with her kids. But without getting a proper job and having no place to live in Yangon, their mother decided to send the two kids to LCH instead of wandering on the street for their living. They didn’t get to go to school back in their hometown, so they both will start school from Kindergarten. We are glad that they are with us, and we are here to provide for their needs—physically, spiritually, and educationally in any way we can. Elizabeth Thang

Food For Thought

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:7

We each have a part to play in God’s work in the world. At times it’ll be planting seeds and other times watering them. We can rest knowing that God will make it grow.
