Hi Everyone!
Whenever we mention that we partner with a couple in Cuba, we almost immediately hear, “I would love to go to Cuba!” However, that is not a possibility today. The airport in Havana is closed to foreigners. There are occasional flights allowed, but they are rare. You may love to go to Cuba, but you’ll have to wait.
Our partners just recently told us that the churches are now required to meet secretly. Because of the pandemic, many things have changed, and church attendance is one of them. All churches are instructed by law to stay closed. Pastors who disobey are imprisoned immediately. The exception is in rural areas. The law says “closed” but people are gathering in small groups away from Havana.
Food and medicine are a great problem. There is very little food available. People leave their home at 4:00 a.m. and stand in line at stores all day. Some are lucky enough to receive small amounts of rice and beans but rarely any chicken or fish. Others stand in line all day to receive nothing. They return the next day and try again. We asked about the pandemic and how people are being treated. We were told that there is no medicine, no vaccinations, no hospital rooms or treatment available. If a person gets Covid, they suffer and many die.
Our partners asked for our advice. They didn’t ask for money, just advice and prayers. They are extremely discouraged, hungry and confused. In the USA we have experienced some of what the Cubans are living through but nowhere near the severity.
We serve a good Master; that we know for sure! He sees what we are going through and hears the cries of suffering. We pray! Please join us as we intercede for our friends in Cuba.
And while you’re praying, throw in a few prayers for our friends in Myanmar who are still suffering because of the political situation there. The orphans and staff are doing fine but still isolated from all outside activity. Food and supplies are scarce. And sending help is very difficult but not impossible.
We are grateful,
Dennis and Robin
